Queen of the Fruits

It is mangoesteen season!  We have been buying 5 kilos each week for the past one month.  All of us in the family enjoy this healthy fruit.  It is sweet and juicy.  Most importantly, it contains high antioxidant.  My children will come to me when they see me eating it, because they do not know how to open the purple skin.  I will give them the small seedless white flesh, and as usual, the mother gets to eat the big seeded flesh.

Since I was a kid, I have been taught of only one way to open a mangoesteen.  Which is place a mangoesteen upside down in both hand and squeeze both palms towards each other to pop the purple skin.

Today, I discover a new way to pop open a mangoesteen.  I thought it is easier to do it this way, and it wouldn't dirty the both hands.

1. Hold a mangoesteen upside down in one hand.
2. Use your thumb to press the 'flower shaped bump'.

Don't you think is easier?

  8. I've never seen/tried a mangosteen before. The inside of it reminds me of a lychee. I'll have to keep eyes out for them when I'm at the market.
